sensei sushi

Presenting! A load of photos from my delicious meal at Sensei Sushi. I've been hearing about this place a lot and seeing it on my Instagram feed, so my sisters, mom and I decided to try it out yesterday.

Even though we went on a Wednesday during lunch (and expected there to be little customers), we decided to make a reservation just in case. When we got to the place, we realised that no reservations were needed. The place was empty. But little did we know that because we reserved, Chef Bruce made himself available to serve us. Now that made our trip to Sensei more interesting! More expensive, too.

We didn't know what to order because the food on the menu and on the restaurant board were familiar, but were slightly different takes on the usual Japanese dishes. We wanted to try all without having to order each dish and finishing with tons of leftover. So.. we left it up to the chef! He whipped up an unli-course meal filled with dishes of what he felt were the restaurant's best sellers and what he personally felt like making at the moment. He said that when we start feeling full, we just have to say stop. The problem was.. even if we did feel full, we all refused to say we've had enough and still kept asking for more.

What we were served:

Tuna Cubes. The first and favorite!
White Shrimp Ceviche
Tuna Tartare
Fresh Oyster
Seared Hamachi
Pig Head Katsu
Lambtaco
The palette cleanser (forgot what was in it)
More Hamachi
Spicy Tuna

Roasted Sea Bass with Aligue rice
Rib-eye steak with ponzu, butter and truffle oil
I don't remember exactly what this is called, but I remember it having some frozen cheesecake.
Chef Bruce's inconsistent Lava Cake

At first, Chef Bruce mentioned that he didn't really like making Japanese food. He said that his Jap style actually went against the traditional Japanese style of cooking, which got me less excited because I was really craving for traditional Japanese. But once we started eating, I didn't even care. Everything was all too delicious. Too good, that we really didn't want to stop! So much flavour bursting out of just one dish that we were all left mmm-ing and wow-ing after each one. And even though Chef Bruce's style is a bit different, I was still able to get my Jap fix.. and more! Definitely so much better than I expected.

If you decide to check this place out, I recommend you give them a call and ask to be served by Chef Bruce. It really is so much better when you get to see and hear about the food you're about to eat. Aside from that, you get to hear about the Chef's interesting life story and experiences while indulging in his mouth-watering creations.

life

Just a short, non-Fellow announcement update.

Life has been quite good lately. I've been pretty busy with some work and a little Fellow, and busy for me is always a good thing.

I am happily working for a production house called Seabiscuit Films, with a group of people I never fail to gain knowledge from and get inspired by. I'm an accounts executive, but on the side I get to join in on shoots to be a production assistant.

Seabiscuit x The Fat Kid Inside

I don't have a nine to five job. I just go to work when needed, usually for meetings and shoots. Sounds pretty chill but really it could be exhausting. The early call times and late night shoots leave me drained and eventually sick. But that's prod work, and it is all very worth it!

As for my "free" time, I work a lot on Fellow. From the small little office in my room, I relocated and turned the house living room into Fellow headquarters. Haha! I needed more space and assistance, so I moved down all my materials. My mom, sister and my boyfriend (who is now a Fellow partner), work with me in fulfilling the orders.

On a non-Dan related note, our Labrador gave birth to two beautiful puppies. The pups are about two months old and have gotten the necessary shots, so they are now ready to be sold (unfortunately). We don't have space for two more Labs (we now have three Labs and a pug), so we can't afford to keep them.

In case you are interested, send me a Facebook message or email me at danielamgamboa@gmail.com :)

Here are the pups!

That is all!

v-day

This year, the girls surprised the guys.

Manna, Tabby and I surprised the boys with dinner and drinks at a helipad in Antipolo, which was overlooking the whole city.

Beautiful view, cheesy 90's love songs, good food, good drinks and amazing company. This is by far one of the best V-days yet!

To new traditions! Thank you Manns for setting up the location and thank you Angelo for the photos.

Happy Valentine's everyone!

isabelo garden restaurant

Last Sunday morning, this is where my family and I brunched. We don't really do this and often opt for a lunch or dinner meal out, but since we wanted to try something slightly different and go slightly farther from our area, we visited Isabelo Garden Restaurant in Marikina.

I wasn't expecting it to look like this. Actually, I had no expectations. But once I saw the place I instantly fell in love with it. The little details, from decors, to signage, to center pieces and artificial lighting, looked like they were all taken from the most random places. You'll find a lot of broken glass   cemented to the walls and floor; bottles of different colors, shapes and sizes; utensils made of different materials; colored bird cages, different colored and printed tiles, hanging windowpanes, fruits, pales, shells, and a whole lot more of really random things put together to make something beautiful.

There are several small eating areas in this little garden, and every one of them has its own distinct look.

The food. Oh the food is delicious! I just had the basic corned beef and eggs, but it came along with some tomatoes and cilantro (just like Bruschetta), which I really liked! I also shared a waffle with my sister. It's actually a good idea to share the waffle with someone and have your own meal so that you can have a meal meal and have a taste of something sweet on the side. Just try not to neglect the waffle while you eat your main dish because it's absolutely delicious when it's fresh from the kitchen.

My meal
My dad ordered an omelette called 3 mushroom. That was THE favorite of the family. It was light and had a good mix of flavors in it. I don't remember exactly what else was in it but I remember it being so good. It's a must try!

Our table
Beautiful place and delicious food. The only thing wrong with it is that it's an hour (or more) away from my area. If you're wondering about the price, a lot of what I saw from their Rustic Mornings menu ranged from about P250-P400, which is very reasonable for the flavor and serving size.

Porscha (if i'm not mistaken w/ the spelling) is the owner of this quaint little garden restaurant, and according to her, the place is even more beautiful at night (and has a whole different menu).

Gaah. Must visit again!
